School Community Council

Dear Patrons of Copper Hills High School,

The Utah State Legislature passed a law in 2000 requiring every public school in the state to establish a School Community Council at the school-site level (Utah Code. Section 53A-1a-108). Two years later the legislature passed a second bill mandating several changes in the duties, powers and membership of the School Community Councils in Utah. This law took effect July 1, 2002. In accordance with state law, “Each public school, in consultation with its local school board, shall establish a school community council at the school building level.”Duties of the Copper Hills High School Community Council include the following:

  • Develop a School Improvement Plan.

  • Develop a School LAND Trust Program.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of a Staff Development Plan.

  • Advise and make recommendations to school and District administrators and to the School Board when appropriate.

  • Create subcommittees and task forces as needed.

  • SCC Candidate Form 2017-2018 –  It is time for the School Community Council to begin its work for the 2017-2018 school year.  The work of the council includes: elections for new members and officers; setting the dates for future meetings; conducting the business of school improvement; and administering LAND Trust money.  The first council meeting will be on WednesdayOctober 11 at 6:00pm in the Copper Hills High School Media Center.  If you are interested in running for a position on the council, please fill out a candidacy form (attached to this email, available on the Skyward message board, on the school website, or via hard copy available in the Main Office) and return it to the the Main Office at Copper Hills no later than 3:00pm on Friday, September 29.  Balloting, if necessary, will occur in the Main Office at Copper Hills from Monday, October 9 through Wednesday, October 11 from 8:00am to 3:00pm.  Please contact Assistant Principal Jim Groethe at james.groethe@jordandistrict.org or (801)256-5316 for more information.  Thank you for your support of Copper Hills High School, our students, and our community.
